Well, according to the breaking news at the SF Chronicle, “the worst is over” from MUNI’s latest follies and meltdowns.
Despite the charts and graphs, I keep noticing it takes me longer to get around, and I can’t count on MUNI, and especially the N-Judah like I used to.
What do you think? This is an open thread – please post your comments here and let people know what your commute’s like. Is “the worst” over?

This morning (Thursday 4/26) just missed the in bound N @ 34th Avenue. Waited 12 minutes and caught a two car @ 8:14. Train was fairly full and by the time we got to 9th/Irving it was full. By Stanyan no one could get on and we passed lots of folks who could not get on at Carl/Cole, Doboce and Church. Arrived at Van Ness at 9am; a 46 minute ride from 34th Avenue. Besides the doors which would not close we
had an 8 minute wait at Church which seems to be standard procedure since the T went on line. This is just terrible service and if it does not improve it threatens the entire idea of using Muni to get to work.
the worst doesn’t seem over to me… in the past two weeks my average wait time for a J has gone from 10 minutes to 25. and i generally ride at busy times like 9am and 6pm. (well, 9.25 and 6.30 now..) my overall average commute time is up by about 20-25 minutes. on a good day it takes me 60min or so, but usually more like 70-90min. back in the halcyon “pre-T” days the range would be more like 45-75min, which was barely acceptable even then considering i’m going about 4 miles.
scary part is, the main issue still seems to be the obviously busted concept of sending packs of trains 2 or 3 in a row instead of spread out over even time intervals. it’s just like before, only they come every 30min instead of every 15-20min.
one glance at the screen in the embarcadero will show packs of trains like these on at least one line almost every day. wtf?
@Andy: The sad part is that allegedly the J is supposed to be getting the test treatment the 1-california did to try and speed it up.
Today it took me an hour and a half to take a trip that should have taken 30 minutes. Sometimes I get the feeling MUNI has given up, as have our Mayor and elected officials. Funny how in other cities and countries they seem to have figured it out but in SF it’s a Gordian Knot. What happened to The City That Knows How??
