Today is Quake Anniversary Day – Where Were You in 1989?

I’d almost forgotten today is Quake Anniversary Day….so I thought I’d pose the question to Loyal Readers – where were you when the Big Quake hit?
I was at UC Santa Cruz on my way to class when I stopped to talk to a friend of mine near the old bookstore (long since demolished) when it hit. The campus itself wasn’t damaged too badly, but unfortunately, the old downtown (which you can sort of see in that one Dirty Harry movie) was badly damaged and most of it was later demolished. I’d just moved there a few months before and suddenly it was all gone!
Afterwards they had these “tents” that they put all the stores in. It was kind of like living on New Caprica.
Where were you? On MUNI? At work? Post a comment and let’s reminisce.

At Whole Earth Access on Ashby Avenue in Berkeley. Doing some after school shopping with mom.

I was living in San Diego at the time, so I had left work a little early to try and catch the World Series.
