Quick Hit: Say “Good Bye, Farewell, And Amen” to the Culture Bus This Saturday!

The Cool Kids over at the SF Appeal are planning one first ride of the Beleaguered Culture Bus this Saturday. A noble idea gagged by poor pricing (does a shot of bourbon come with that fare?) and poor marketing, the emptiest buses in the fleet will have one last go, and a group of Blogging Folks will be there to commemorate this glorious day.

Mason Powell, our resident quote-meister, upon hearing the news said “it’s not so much as a good bye as it is taking Old Yeller out back to shoot it and put it out of its misery.” Too true, Mr. Powell!

(Oh and can I just note this: when searching for an image to accompany this post, a picture of The World’s Most Interesting Man popped up. True!

aw man… I am out of town I won’t be able to see that empty yellow bus go by anymore….how dissapointing….how about replacing it with a historic streetcar line via the N Judah route I bet that route would be well used…..dare to dream…….

Why do bloggers keep harshing on the 74X line? It was a really great idea that was poorly marketed and priced. Still the easiest way to get out to all the museums in the Park.

The Culture Bus is a shining example of what’s wrong with MUNI.
It was very poorly marketed – and ran empty buses over and over and over and over, while MUNI was issuing big cuts to service and fare increases.
Typical Gavin Newsom fail – come up with some neat sounding idea, have a press conference, do nothing to make it work, and then suck millions of dollars away from day to day service to run empty buses ALL DAY LONG.
    Fucking fail.

Just saw it go by yesterday at 8th and Market. It had 1 passenger – the most I’ve ever seen riding.
