Got a (Complaint/Praise/Other) for Supervisors Mirkarimi/Elsbernd and Chief Gascon? Come to a Public Meeting Jan. 28th!

There’s quite a lot going on these days, what with all sorts of Muni mayhem, crime this and that, and plenty more going on. Now, you have a chance to have your concerns addressed in person by Supervisor Sean Elsbernd. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, and SFPD Chief George Gascon at a town hall meeting on January 21st, just one week from today.
The event is sponsored by the Inner Sunset Park Neighbors, and you’ll have chance to talk about current events and your views on what’s going on in Our Fair City. In the past, these kinds of events have actually turned out to be quite informative so try and stop by if there’s something you’d like the electeds or our police chief to hear about. You can even RSVP via Facebook if you prefer.
The meeting starts at 7pm and will be held at the SF County Fair Building, just inside the park at 9th and Lincoln. Sounds like it’ll be fun!

    Off-topic:
Does anyone know anything about the train fire that filled Castro Station with smoke today? I went in and there was a lot of smoke, and the station was evacuated. Station agent was down at the train with a fire extinguisher.

    @sfhope: whenabouts was this?

A similar event is happening for Outer Sunset residents. On Thurs., Feb. 18, @7pm at the Sunset Rec Center (28th Ave and Lawton St), there will be a Community Meeting on Sunset Quality of Life Issues with SFPD Chief Gascon, Taraval Station Captain Schmidt, and Supervisor Carmen Chu.

    A little before 1PM I believe.

Any luck finding info Greg? I haven’t seen any mention of it in the Chron, etc. You have better contacts than I do.
It really worried me. With this and the derailment, etc., I’m concerned about Muni’s state of disrepair. =(

  6. Greg Dewar says:

@sfhope: I put out a few calls late in the day but didn’t hear anything back before the weekend. So long as we just cut without thinking, we save pennies on maintenance now only to pay for a big fail later on for more $.

  7. SFHope says:

    Thanks Greg!
Based on the smell it was pretty clearly a part of the train that went poofy — same kind of smell as when the power supply in a computer I was using caught on fire.
Of course part of the problem is that these darn Bredas break so much. That’s a company I’d never buy a train from.

  8. Greg Dewar says:

SF Weekly did a piece back in 1998 or 1999 detailing how the Bredas were chose, why they suck, etc. When Breda provided cars to Boston a while back, they spent more time in the repair shop than on the tracks. Ironically, their cars had been calibrated to work in SF conditions, not Boston conditions (the weather affects the tracks, etc) and well, you know how this story ends.

  9. SFHope says:

Strange that the Boston Bredas would be configured for SF! I’ve been on them — they are semi-low-floor units, so would be completely inappropriate in SF’s high platform system.
