YES, I Am Aware How F*cked We Are on Google Search!

Just so we’re all clear – I am well aware of how the search result for “N Judah Chronicles” has been hacked by hacker bastards on Google.
However, I do not have the technical know-how to fix it. So while I appreciate the (many) emails and IMs and whatnots about this, unless someone out there is willing to show me how to fix a MovableType 4.01 installation that’s been hacked like this, I honestly don’t know what to do.
Trying to move the site to WordPress has been difficult enough – I’m not a PHP/internet/webserver/software engineer – and this annoying hack on top is really frustrating. And, being an orphan customer of Movable Type software, it’s not like I can go find help easily the way I could if I’d been smart and used WordPress all along instead.
Speaking of WordPress, I’m trying to make the move without killing 5 years worth of links in Google, although at this point I’m so frustrated with the whole thing, I’m ready to just move, and say “f**k the linkage” because using MovableType is a) difficut and b) impossible to find any reliable help to get this done fast.
Thanks again for your concern – and if anyone out there can actually do this, I’m afraid I don’t know what to do since programming computers and the like has never ever been my area of expertise.

The fact that someone found a way to make Google see a different site than everyone else is interesting. If you look at the Google Cache of the page, it appears to be a bunch of meaningless strings of words with spam thrown in here and there. But the strange thing is that all the links still point to this site!
In other words, the net effect is that their spam won’t generate any sales for them, but it will make Google think you’re running a spam site and lower your page rank.

I get that – I just don’t know how to fix it. My GoGavinNewsom site was destroyed by one of these goddamned viruses….

Hey Greg – I have seen this before on a WordPress blog. In my experience, this was accomplished by updating the PHP.INI file so that when each page loads, an extra piece of code is run. That code will check to see if the client IP address matches one of the known Google crawler IPs, and if so, it will dump out the extra junk into the page.
I was able to fix this on my site by first removing the unnecessary code from the PHP.INI file, and then going through each script in the entire blog installation to delete the extra scripts added by the hacker. You need to be sure to get them all, or else the hacker can call a script (usually hidden within a couple folders) to basically restore all the parts of the hack, and you are back at square one.
In addition to clearing the actual hacked content, you would also want to get a Google Webmaster account going so you can a) tell Google to delete all the cached content for your site, and b) temporarily remove your site from the index. Once that is done, and the site is cleared, you can add yourself back to the index, and the clean pages will be (slowly) added back to the index.
Let me know if I can give you a hand…

I did a search for the “N Judah” and it looked like a lot of the links were for your page (but not the top link), so maybe it’s being sorted out. Unfortunately, I can’t offer any help – only sympathy. When I write articles for the Examiner.com, I get the weirdest bunch of links that you ever didn’t want to see. It makes no sense.

You can actually email Google. Sometimes a person will actually read it, and change it on their end.
