It seems like sometimes “events” tend to all fall on the same few days around this time of year. That’s good, in that there’s lots to see and do, and most don’t cost a thing, either. Here’s a few favorites coming up:
Sunset Mercantile 9/19 10am-5pm: I’ve been pusing the Sunset Mercantile on Twitter for a while now, for no other reason that it seems fun, and I’m going to actually attend this year. It’s being held at the West Sunset Playground at 3223 Ortega St. @ 39th Avenue. It’s an easy 7 bus ride to the event, and every year there seems to be more and more, so go if you can.
San Francisco Comedy Day 9/20 12pm-5pm: This has been one of my favorite events for literally decades – I used to attend in the late 80s/early 90s, and it is as fun now as it ever was. If you remember anything at all from the Golden Era of Comedy in San Francisco, many longtime favorite comedians will be there. If you don’t, this is your chance to hear them, and to hear the latest comedians on the scene today. It’s at Sharon Meadow, and a short walk from the 7 bus stop at Stanyan and Haight.
Muni Heritage Weekend 9/26-9/27 10am-5pm: This annual celebration of Municipal Railway history, co-produced by Market Street Railway and the SFMTA, always has a lot going on. There will be many historic vehicles on display, as well as many on the F-line not normally part of the vehicle rotation. The San Francisco Railway Museum will have a special sale of all things transit related. Photo archives from the SFMTA will also be on display. It’s like Comic-Con, but for all things Muni related.
Cole Valley Fair 9/27: This event has been one of my favorites for many years. They always have a lot going on, and they always have lots of historical photos and old cars on display. This neighborhood is going through a bit of a shake-up, as several longtime businesses are no more and it’s unclear what will replace them. Even under such circumstances, the neighborhood really comes together for this event. It’s obviously on the N-Judah line, so go an enjoy it
