Rapid Transit to the San Francisco International Airport: View of Terminal Complex with elevated BART scheme (1969)
Eric Fisher is like a legend on Flickr for transit nerds because he always has the coolest stuff to show off. For example, these original plans for BART to go to SFO Airport.
Flipping through the images, you feel less like you’re looking at plans for SFO that never were, and instead are looking at production sketches for that Star Trek II series they never made. Or something like that.
Perhaps in the alternate universe on FRINGE they have something cool like this.
FWIW a sketch was provided to then BART Director Michael Bernick showing a six track station idea. Outermost two, BART, middle each side Air Train, inner two Caltrain. The idea was to have four platforms so that ALL users would have level boarding roll on roll off — meet ADA, AND very convenient to rolling luggage. The station was conceived to be out of the weather. BART staff gave us the disaster we have partially as the Trojan Horse aiming for San Jose.
